Note: The following federally declared emergencies and disasters are in reverse chronological order, beginning with the most recent event. The number in parenthesis after the emergency or disaster event name is the federal declaration number assigned to the event.

Acronyms

DR - Major Disaster Declaration: The President can declare a Major Disaster Declaration for any natural catastrophe, including fires, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and explosions wherever the President believes that the incident has caused damage of such severity that it is beyond the combined capabilities of State and local governments to respond. This type of declaration provides a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work.

EM - Emergency Declaration: An Emergency Declaration can be declared for any occasion or instance when the President determines that federal assistance is needed. This type of declaration usually supplements State and local efforts in providing emergency services such as protecting lives, property, and public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of catastrophe.

FSA - Fire Management Assistance: This type of assistance is available to State, local and tribal government for the mitigation, management and control of fires on publicly or privately owned forests or grasslands, which threaten such destruction as would constitute a major disaster.
